the running back sports team is glad to welcome two new players to its roster. dplay and whiz kid manuel tur (see also his brilliant ribn stuff) have caused a great stir with a bouquet of 12-inches for outfits like zurichs beloved drumpoet community or the compost black label as well as knocking out well-made remixes. for instance, their work on kiloos the passion is just adorable. here we have them melted into one organism called dplay, while mtur moves in silence (or in the production credits, if you please). stretching out on the a-side, huub sand is not only a tribute to two of schalke 04s greatest gentlemen, but a prime-example of cavernous, stoic and infective house those two (no not the schalke guys) had quite an impact on. initially planned to come with a remix by the mighty radio slave (please look at cat-no. 012 to see what became of that), our coach could convince the duo to hand out two rather atypical, nonetheless bloodcurdling tunes instead: tschaka kicks some deep dub disco houz styles of the highest orders with riot-like effects on your mind, body & soul. finally, schroulé is a claustrophobic corker, if we have ever seen one. should be the perfect sound track for padded cells and the up-and-coming remake of mel brooks frankenstein. these ruhrpott kids are alright!

fine arranged melodies from multiple sound sources, as stated in his biography, are the building blocks of which daniel mehlhart considers to be the essence of good music. putting what he preaches into practice has affirmed the 22-year-old swiss born, frankfurt am main resident, as one of the most exciting new talents in the underground tech-house movement. his most acclaimed release was the harp-tinged origami, released last summer on kindisch, which catapulted him into the record bags and charts of a slew of seasoned djs during the end of last summer. >scharade< is an example of young daniel sticking to what he does best, mixing and blending techno. atmospheres and sonic images while still animating an organic and natural vibe over the tracks. liberal amounts of percussion and a middle eastern or asian vocal dramatically pitched this tune beyond recognition watermark with a style and a vibe that he has helped to advance. the house roots of >distracted conscience< are present right from the onset. using a double pump kick to inject a pinch more of energy into the already flourishing habitat of off-kilter and spooky sound effects. so many in fact it is easy to see how he came up with the name, >distracted conscience<, as there are more effects floating around in this track than thoughts in the head of an 8-year-old who forgot his daily dose of ritalin. he turns to an ethnic vocal on >alura< again, but keeping the overall mood of this outing a bit deeper. he pulls out even more percussion instruments including extra shakers, toms and bongos all marching along harmoniously. this is a head down, hands-up, side-to-side bopper that just keeps quietly elevating as subtle elements are added and subtracted throughout the duration of the tune. a coherent composition and dj tool all in one. although this is his second release there are no signs of a sophomore slump anywhere in site, as daniel mehlharts talent lies in his unique, but subtle ability to gel different eleme

sd records keeps them fine tunes coming, this time with the long awaited debut of roswell return. on the a-side the title track iftodex c0001 which can be best described as deep space acid: a long and trippy beatless track that keeps evolving around a powerful acid line and deep strings, which sound like a journey through space past bright shining stars and fast pulsating white dwarfs. on the b-side you will find the sd remix by syncom data, who hardly need any introduction, and they have turned the original into an irresistible, deep and warm dancefloor smasher in the best detroit tradition.

phat groovin new hidenobu ito release!! hidenobu ito was born in inagi city in tokyo, japan. since youth his musical interests concentrated on game music, and began working as a cartoonist to buy music hardwares. later in the ninities, hidenobu composed music compilation albums and soundtracks, with a wide range of music style: from experimental to deep soul creating his very special own sound. hidenobu released on labels as mos ferry, flyrec, commune disc, wimm, elegantdisc, ns-com, triptrap, subrosa, fenou and level records...dont miss this!

this obscure lost soundtrack for an even more obscure (and also lost and never finished) italia violenta cop movie was recently discovered when i bought the dusty reel tapes from a restaurant owner in fiumicino, a seaside town near rome. panter 777 aka il labirinto di roma violenta aka the maze of violence, he told me, was directed by gervasio giardano in 1981 and was considered too (politically) explicit by the movie production company who dropped the project after the first screening. the soundtrack, an explosion of wahwah funk riffs and juicy analog synthesizers, was composed by an obscure band called nacho patrol. the restaurant owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was one of the band members and composed most of the tracks.
